Keeping Your Browser Up To Date
Keep your browser and operating system up to date to use RoundTab reliably and receive the security updates provided by their makers. If RoundTab looks broken or shows a browser warning, this guide explains what to do and why updates matter.
Why we update RoundTab
Running a service means depending on your software throughout a busy shift. We update RoundTab to fix faults, improve reliability, maintain security and make everyday tasks easier. We also need to stay compatible with the services RoundTab connects to and the supported tools used to build it.
Some updates change what you see; others happen behind the scenes. Keeping the interface familiar matters, but leaving the whole system on old software indefinitely is not a safe maintenance strategy. Over time, older software can lose support and stop receiving fixes. Continuing to maintain it also makes newer improvements harder to deliver and test.
Updating does not mean software is risk-free. We still need to test changes and respond when something goes wrong. If an update causes a problem during service, contact us so we can help you find a practical way forward.
Why your browser needs updates too
Your browser runs the part of RoundTab you see and interact with. RoundTab updates and browser updates do different jobs: we maintain the service, while Apple, Google and other browser makers maintain the software on your device.
Browser updates include security fixes as well as support for newer website features. An older browser may be unable to display a page correctly, even when the website has loaded successfully. Signs can include oversized icons, missing colours, a broken layout or controls that are difficult to use.
That does not by itself mean your device has been compromised. It does mean you should update it rather than rely on a broken page. We cannot install browser security fixes through a RoundTab update.
What to do if you see the warning
- Update your browser and operating system. Save any work and arrange updates outside a busy service where possible, with another supported device available if needed.
- Reopen the browser and check RoundTab. Check the dashboard and the pages you use during service before relying on that device again.
- If you cannot update, check whether your device supports a current alternative browser. Chrome is one option, but it has its own operating-system requirements. Installing an old copy of Chrome is not a substitute for receiving ongoing security updates.
- If no supported browser is available, use another supported device and contact us. We can help you check your options.
Choose a browser version that is still supported by its maker and receives security updates. Meeting a minimum website feature requirement is not the same as having a secure, fully updated device.
Updating Safari on a Mac
Safari updates are provided through Apple's software updates. Open the Apple menu, choose System Settings or System Preferences, then find Software Update. The exact steps depend on your macOS version. You may need to update macOS to get a newer Safari.
Follow Apple's instructions for updating Safari. If no further updates are offered, your Mac may already have the newest version it supports; that does not necessarily mean it can run a current browser.
Using or updating Chrome
If Chrome is already installed, use its menu to open Help → About Google Chrome, check for updates and relaunch when prompted. See Google's update instructions.
Before installing Chrome, check Google's current operating-system requirements. A Mac that cannot update Safari may also be too old for the latest Chrome. Download browsers from their official provider, and contact us if you are unsure which option your device supports.
Using the previous version temporarily
For eligible signed-in manager accounts, the warning offers Use the previous version temporarily. This opens the previous dashboard for your sign-in in this browser session. It does not change the venue's interface setting or switch other staff and devices to the previous version. Other tabs sharing your sign-in and browser session will also use the preference when loaded.
The previous interface looks different and may help with display problems while you arrange an update. It is not a guarantee that every feature will work in an old browser, and it does not make an outdated browser secure. It is a temporary fallback, not a promise of indefinite support for older browsers.
A notice remains visible while this preference is active. After updating, choose Return to the current version. Signing out or letting the session expire also ends the preference. If the option is unavailable, contact support rather than changing the venue-wide interface setting, which could confuse other staff.
Continue with display problems only dismisses the warning. It does not repair the page, and some controls may remain unusable.
Getting help
Choose Copy details for support in the warning and paste the report into your message. It includes the browser-reported user agent, feature checks and other diagnostic details. Nothing is sent automatically by that button. Please also describe what you were trying to do and include a screenshot if useful.
On a Mac, check Apple menu → About This Mac for your macOS version if we ask for it. Browser-reported operating-system details are not always exact. Never send passwords, login codes or payment-card details.
Contact RoundTab support if you need help updating, choosing another browser or using the temporary fallback.
