Chit Printer Setup
Connect a Star till printer, find its IP, enable CloudPRNT, and print kitchen and bar chits from live orders.
Chit Printer Setup
RoundTab chit printing sends kitchen and bar tickets (chits) from your live orders screen to a Star thermal printer on your network. The printer collects jobs from RoundTab over the internet — no till PC, no extra app on the iPad.
RoundTab currently supports one till printer per venue: staff review an order, press Print Ticket, and hand the chit to cocktail, runners or kitchen.
RoundTab supplies and registers the printer for trial venues. You install it on site; we help remotely.

What you need
- A supported Star CloudPRNT printer (see below)
- Power and a network path to the internet:
- Ethernet (recommended for trial): cable from the printer into your router or switch
- The printer must be able to reach https://roundtab.com outbound. You do not need to open inbound ports or port-forward to the printer
- An 80mm thermal roll loaded, lid closed
- RoundTab login (manager or staff) once printing is switched on for your account
RoundTab will give you the Server URL, User Name and Password to paste into the printer. Treat the password like a device secret — it is shown once when we register the printer.
Supported printers
These are the configurations RoundTab supports today.
| Connection | Model | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet (LAN) + CloudPRNT | Star TSP143IV UE | Recommended. |
| CloudPRNT (Wi‑Fi / other TSP100IV) | Star TSP143IV (CloudPRNT firmware) | Possible later; trial kit is the UE Ethernet unit. |
We do not currently support Bluetooth or USB “plugged into the iPad” printing. The iPad (or any browser) talks to RoundTab; the printer talks to RoundTab. They do not need to be on the same Wi‑Fi as each other, as long as the printer can reach the internet.
Coming later: extra Star CloudPRNT models, Epson ePOS, routing to separate bar and kitchen printers.
Find the printer IP
You need the printer’s address so you can open its Web Configuration from a laptop on the same network.
- Load paper and connect power and Ethernet.
- Power the printer off.
- Hold FEED.
- Power on while still holding FEED.
- Release when printing starts. The network slip shows IP Address (and usually MAC).
From a laptop on the same LAN, open http://<that-ip> in a browser (use http, not https — the printer’s own page may not load over https).

Alternatives if you cannot find the IP:
- Router / DHCP client list (look for Star or the printer MAC from the self-test)
- Star Quick Setup Utility — iOS / Android
Connect the printer to RoundTab
Do this after RoundTab has registered the printer and sent you the three CloudPRNT values.
- Open the printer Web Configuration (
http://<printer-ip>). - Go to CloudPRNT.
- Set the service to ENABLE.
- Paste:
- Server URL — the RoundTab address we gave you (looks like
https://roundtab.com/webhooks/cloudprnt/…) - User Name —
cloudprint - Password — the one-time password from registration
- Server URL — the RoundTab address we gave you (looks like
- Set Polling time to 1 second (if left blank, Star defaults to about 5 seconds).
- Save & Restart the device.

Wait for the printer to come back online. It will start checking RoundTab for jobs on its own.
You do not install printer software on the iPad or till. You do not pair Bluetooth.
Print a test chit
Once Ticket Printing terms are accepted, a manager can press Test print on the Ticket Printing terms page.
A successful test chit means CloudPRNT, network and paper are working. You should see a short “TEST PRINT” slip within about one poll (around a second if polling is set to 1s).
Print an order chit
- On staff or manager live orders, find a paid order.
- Review it (Pending → print → Complete).
- Press Print Ticket.
- The printer should cut a chit with table, order number, time and items.
- Hand it to cocktail, runners or kitchen.
If you print the same order again, the next slip is marked COPY so service does not double-fire it. Wait a few seconds between reprints.
RoundTab can also print a marked admin chit when testing against a live order — if you see ADMIN PRINT - PLEASE DISCARD, do not make the drinks.
Paper (consumables)
Use standard 80mm thermal receipt rolls (the size this Star class takes). After the starter roll in the box, you buy your own — supermarket, Amazon or a catering supplier is fine.
If the red error light is on, check the lid is closed and paper is feeding from the correct side of the roll.
If something goes wrong
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| Nothing prints | Confirm Ethernet link lights, paper loaded, CloudPRNT ENABLE, Save & Restart done. Ask RoundTab whether the printer has been seen recently. |
| Test print works, orders do not | Chit printing must be switched on for your account. You need staff/manager access to live orders. |
| Prints but does not cut | Tell RoundTab — that is a software setting, not a paper jam. |
| Printer was offline (power or Wi‑Fi) | Jobs wait. When it comes back it should catch up. Do not keep pressing Print while it is off. |
| Lost CloudPRNT password | Ask RoundTab to register the printer again (same device). The password is rotated and shown once. |
| Wrong IP after moving networks | Repeat the FEED self-test and update nothing in RoundTab — only your browser needs the new IP for Web Config. Server URL stays the same. |
Still stuck? Email support@roundtab.com with the printer’s last self-test slip (or a photo) and roughly when you pressed Print.
Star manuals and videos
Hardware steps (self-test, paper, Web Configuration, firmware) are Star’s. Use these if you want pictures or a video of the printer itself.

You do not need Star Cloud Services or WooCommerce plugins — those are other products. RoundTab is the CloudPRNT server; only the printer Web Configuration (or Quick Setup → CloudPRNT) needs our URL and password.
